The weather was warm, mostly sunny and dry, so decided to cheer myself up and take Emma down the beach, Cei Bach being about the only doggie allowed one at this time of year. So I head off. The road leading to the coast has been undergoing "improvements" for months now, which involves road widening. 7 sets of traffic lights on about a 5 mile stretch. I got everyone on red. We get to the car park, and the path leading down to the beach is very sludgy. We got to the beach, and the tide was in. So there's nowhere to walk, can't cross the river bit to get to the other side without wearing waders, or taking half my clothes off. So we walk back down the sludge and decide to walk through the woody bit up to the top picnic area (I went there earlier in the year) So after much huffing and puffing (me, not Emma,it's steep) we get to the top and they are working on the water works site. Well I should say sewage treatment plant. I was being polite. The stench was enough to make most people pass out, and the noise was horrendous, some huge pumping machine I guess. Undeterred, I thought I'm up here now, we will walk. They hadn't cut the grass since the last time I was there, it was about a foot high, although obviously others had trudged around the circuit so it was at least usable, just. Wet feet. Lots more sludge. Back down through the footpath, nearly slipped over on my arse. Emma covered in mud. And then, it started to rain.
Are you forming a picture by now, an impression maybe of the day? Well to cheer myself up, I drove to New Quay and stuffed myself with fish and chips, so there! And Emma did get to go in the sea, the small beach to the left of the harbour is okay for dogs too, which is good. And we had ice cream. And a long walk to the Fish Factory where the Nature's Calendar thing was filmed that was shown last week, no sign of any dolphins or seals today though.
To end the day, we are now having the thunder storm from hell. It's black, it dropped down with torrential rain just now, and we lost the electric. Good here innit?
I will post the Cenarth Falls stuff another time, when I don't do anything, which will be quite often I think over the next 6 weeks, cos I shall be avoiding places like the plague now that the kids have broken up.
Oh, and I will be able to tell if you have dared laugh at this, oh yes, I will know!

If I say I'm laughing uproariously please don't take it the wrong way. It's just too, too funny. What else could possibly go wrong! Well, like they say, tomorrow is another day. Lets hope it's better than this one, lol. So happy to hear that you got the sofa problem sorted out. Lots of hugs.
laugh? laugh?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Sounds like you had quite a day, but i get the feeling even you are having a little chuckle now. I do hope your new sofa comes soon!
Did you say there is a smelly sewage treatment plant on a beach? How can the 2 seater sofa be more expensive than the 3 seater if they are the same model??? You say the store already had two failed deliveries of the sofa model you purchased. Is that the way things are done in Wales? Don't Welsh stores have any responsibility to provide assurance to dotty old ladies that the sofa they are going to purchase will fit through their front doors? They should have insisted that you provide measurements before you bought the sofa. If you know a lawyer, check it out. I think you were had. Don't get angry, get even.
The smelly sewage plant isn't on the beach, it's in the woodland some half a mile from the beach, up on top of the valley that rises above.
On the ScS Customer Information Document, it states : blah blah ....However if the furniture does not fit into your home, we cannot be held responsible for the cost of any alterations needed to provide adequate access... blah blah..
On their invoice, they state : It is your responsibility to ensure there is adequate access and space to receive the goods on delivery..
So they've got us by the short and curlies, and have covered themselves, so no chance of any legal do-dahs. And the reason the two seater is dearer is that the three seater was shop soiled and I got it with £250 off.
Oh and thanks for calling me a dotty old lady. I maybe dotty, but don't think I'm old yet, although I feel it sometimes!

It really does seem illegal to sell sofas to the public and not inquire about delivery specifications when in a short period of time 3 sofas were returned because they would not fit through entry doors and the sofas were not returnable. It sounds like a scam because you were tricked into believing the sofa would fit. As a result you wound up with a smaller sofa than you paid for. It was the stores duty to enquire about delivery requirements before they sold you the sofa. Maybe you could write an article for your local paper about this sofa that they keep selling over and over. When it doesnt fit through the door of the house back to the shop it goes again until another mark buys it. Its a bit shopworn and its going to get worse.
Lovely pictures and I hope to learn of this sofa soap opera business ending in your favour.
anonymous - thanks for that, you could well be right I guess. Thing is though ScS is a huge national company with a massive turnover, I'm not sure they would both with scams for the amount of money involved here, maybe so if I'd been paying the full retail price (pre sale) for the sofa which is over a thousand pounds. Cheers for trying to help though, appreciate it. :)
I just would like to say that I really like the photos even though the day was not so good Jan. I really really like them. I like the funny story too. It is so interesting to see others get in a mess and not just me all the time.
I think the photos are lovely too. What exactly are they of? I still think it should be illegal for companies to treat customers the way you and two other people were treated. If it is a large company as you say, take the time to write to their home office and complain. Address the letter to the CEO. It seems to be company policy to sell customers things that they cannot use and then refuse to refund ther money when the customers realize they've been had and then to sell the same sofa over and over because of that very reason. They need to have a company policy where they at least ask the customer to verify the dimensions of their front door and the configuration of the foyer before they sell the furniture.
Yeah, that's a very good point about asking the customer for measurements and configuration. I think I will do as you suggest, because I am still pissed off about it, it will be interesting to see what they say. I'll let you know, although if it's like another company I emailed about a product, they probably won't even bother to reply!
The photos are of New Quay in Cardigan bay, it's one of our nicest seaside towns, especially when the weather is nice like yesterday, the boats moored in the harbour make it look like the south of France or Spain. Just wish we had their weather! We had a nature show on tv here last week, and they filmed some scenes from here (the first photos) where you can look down and see seals and dolphins if you are lucky - I wasn't. I have seen dolphins in the bay twice though.
The only way we were able to get a double bed box spring upstairs was by breaking apart the header over the door. This wasn't too much of a problem, as we were removing the door anyway, but now that the doorway is fixed the way we want it, we no longer would be able to bring the box spring down from the room--unless we broke it in little pieces or broke up the doorway again. So, I understand completely the pain of not being able to get furniture into your house--or into parts of your house! Also, we BARELY managed to get our new refrigerator in the back door last year--the frig doors had to be removed and then it JUST fit through the door. It is SO much fun living in an old house. :)
I got a box spring up the stairs a few years ago, and smashed the landing window on the way lol, managed to find a bit of stained glass the right colour, but I m more careful now, hope you like your new settee, been catching up, left a message on sofa from hell too. Pauline.
sorry....dotty old lady had me smiling.
You arnt either jan, sorry to hear of your problems of late. What if you chain sawed the sofa in half then glued it back together in the house??
NO? Ok I will go back to sleep again
